Summer Dress

The summer is going by SO quickly!

Internship is going well/NY is insanelyyyyy hot/ I'm moving in a couple of weeks/ Suji and I are heading to Michigan for the 4th of July + a Ruh trunkshow tomorrow... crazy!

Anyways, here is a dress I made for one of my final projects this semester. The top is silk eyelet and the bottom is cotton/silk. Perfect summer dress!

Hunting Outfit-Term Project

Wow--I have SO many projects to update on. The past few weeks, er months, have been totally and completely insane, so I have been really behind on the whole photographing/scanning/photo updating process that it takes to get pictures up here... Anywayyys, I am just going to start with the most recent and then work my way back as I get some time over the next few weeks.

This project was my final collection for my active sport class. I chose hip hop dance as my first sport (pics coming soon), and hunting as my second one. The collection consists of a cape, shirt and legging. The shirt and the legging had quilted panels which I quilted myself--so time consuming.

The cape is made of oilcloth- so it feels a little stiff but still soft at the same time. It's naturally water resistant. I trimmed the entire thing in light brown leather (not an easy task) and made a front placket with a snap.

The shirt is a gorgeous double-faced wool with a shooting patch.

And the legging. This is the most basic piece. It is just a very simple legging with the only special detail being the quilted patches on the inner leg.

I made the shirt and cape to fit me- I am so excited to wear them!

Swimwear Portfolio Collection

This was my final project for one of my two portfolio classes. The format was actually a catalog, so the final product was a 28 page bound book with product descriptions and front and back flats for every piece. It was way too much to show here, and really completely unnecessary in any case, because a catalog layout is not something I would ever take to an interview. Oh well. Here, I pulled out the main components of the project so that you all could a feel for the mood, inspiration, etc. What is not included is the fabric page (basic swimwear fabrics and then lots of silk chiffon and charmeuse for the cover-ups), and all of the pages with each individual look and then corresponding flats, product descriptions, additional colorways...etc.

My designs/drawings aren't very strong here in my opinion, but I honestly have no interest in swimwear whatsoever...

Hiking Portfolio

For my active sport portfolio class we had to do a hiking collection this week. Not really my thing, as you can tell... The inspiration was circus, so I used a lot of bright colors and mostly tried to make it look like I have been hiking before...

In further news, I just got a really great summer internship! PAID! If you are at all familiar with the fashion industry, then you know that this paid internships are essentially unheard of. Anyways, it's a great opportunity and I'm really excited! And it means that I will be in NYC all summer. I will definitely miss Harbor Springs and TX, but hopefully I will get lots of visitors this summer...

Sustainable Designs

This latest portfolio project was supposed to utilize principles of sustainable design. All of the fabrics I used were sustainable(i.e. certified organic cotton, silk, and Tencel) and were all dyed using low-impact dye techniques. Also, the intention was to use local artists to do all of the hand quilting that that jackets would require. Anyways, we had to present the project on boards which I haven't had time to photograph yet, so these are just the figures.

The inspiration was originally little house on the praire/ vintage laura ashley, but it really turned into an Americana themed group.

Modeling for RUH by Suji Oh

This past week one of my best and closest friends, Suji, had the honor of being asked to show her new collection of hair accessories at Henri Bendel (avery upscale and fashionable department store here in nyc). Suji handmade every single one of her pieces, and they are all insanely beautiful. When she asked me to be the model for the collection I was so, so honored.

Angelique also did some modeling (and photography, of course), but all of these pictures were taken by the incomparable Paul White. (There are trillions more where these came from!! I just chose a few highlights...)

p.s. here is a behind-the-scenes pic from the prep for the shoot. As you can see, it was verrrry exhausting getting so glamorous.... (although Sue and Suji did a very good job!)

Buy Furs!

I spent the majority of my Spring Break trip to Texas out in the hill country in Roundtop and Warrenton at the HUGE annual antique shows out there. Three full days of digging through millionsssss of old artifacts... pretty fun. And exhausting. The weather was beautiful though (and the Texas wildflowers are INSANE this year!!!) and I found some pretty cool things. Mainly, really old and ratty stuffed animal bunnies (amazing), old trims and buttons, some cool purple glass bottles, andddd FUR! At the beginning of the trip, I told my mom my main goal was to get a scarf with a face on this trip. And the one I found has not 1 face, but FOUR! Best find ever...

Four minks (i think) including their faces, tails, and legs! All for 15 dollars!! I spent the rest of the trip looking for another one in a darker color so i could wear them all at once (for that super-whacky grandma look) but none were cheap enough. Sad day. The search has not been abandoned though....

I also fell in love with this sign, and am going to paint my own...

These people actually had tons of stuff I would have loved to have dragged back to ny with me. There was basically endless inspiration and exciting stuff to be found.

Anyways, when I wasn't freaking people out by modeling my new scarf, I was eating. Texas seriously does have the best. food. ever. I'm still trying to recover. I could probably fast til the end of the semester and still be able to survive after all that good old southern cooking....
