Lace-Up Leather Vest

My first project from leather apparel class this semester was a leather vest that I made from recycled leather.

It is a really nice, super beat up black leather. I added real horn buttons for the front closure, and sewed them on with leather strips for the full leather experience.
The back is slightly shorter than the front and has a really subtle curve that looks really cool and drapey on.
The side seams are open and laced up with leather strips. I put the grommets in myself, which involved some really good skills with a hammer (soo fun!), and then distressed the gold with black paint to make them look more vintage and match the quality of the leather. I hand sewed in a super soft striped grey flannel lining for ultimate comfort.
